Freedman dreaming of big club after Palace win

11 April 2012

Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman hopes his side draw a big club following their Carling Cup fourth round win over Southampton.

The Eagles ran out 2-0 winners thanks to late goals from Darren Ambrose and Jermaine Easter.

And now Freedman is looking forward to Saturday's draw.

He said: "I hope it's a home draw against a big club. If we can get a home draw it will be a big advantage for us.

"We are pleased, it was a hard-fought win, we had to defend for most of the game.

"We gave a lot of respect to Southampton, who are a very good team. But we defended well and that enabled us to go on and get the goals.

"Over the 90 minutes we deserved to win."

After 72 dour minutes, the breakthrough finally came from a mistake in the Southampton defence.

Aaron Martin's sliced clearance wrong-footed his team-mates, Jonathan Williams got in behind and crossed for Ambrose to tuck in his fourth goal of the season.

And the impressive Williams also had a hand in the second nine minutes later, drawing a foul from Dan Harding in the area for Easter to slam home the penalty.
