Gareth Bale will give Tottenham the leverage to sign some of the biggest names in football, according to teammate Gylfi Sigurdsson.
While some of the more prestigious clubs in the sport, namely Manchester United and Real Madrid, size up the Welsh winger, Spurs are holding out that the 24-year-old is not for sale.
Sigurdsson believes, however, that Bale is key to the future of Tottenham and that he alone can help the club sign star players.
The Iceland international told The Sun: “Good players want to play with other big players.
“It’s a big club and hopefully he’ll stay and we’ll bring in a few other good players.
“He’s a great player and if he stays it will be fantastic. I’m sure he will stay.”
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has not been frugal during the summer transfer window, signing Paulinho and Nacer Chadli - with a deal for Roberto Soldado expected to be completed in the next few days.
“We saw Paulinho in the Confederations Cup, he looked a good player there and was shining.
“We’ve signed Nacer Chadli as well, who is looking really good in training. Hopefully we’ll bring a couple more in.
“You never know how it’s going to go, there could be a couple of other teams fighting for the title. There’s going to be about six teams fighting up there — it’s always tough, whatever year it is.”
Villas-Boas will be looking to take his Tottenham side into the Champions League in the coming season, after just missing out on fourth place last year.
