Gary Cahill is prepared for a stern test from Brazil but thinks youthful England can excite

Gary Cahill is preparing for a stern test when England face Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night.

Having put in an impressive performance against World Cup holders Germany on Friday, with five players also making their Three Lions debut, there is an air of excitement ahead of the clash hard to come by in the qualifiers.

After passing a late fitness test Cahill is available for selection against the five-time World Cup winners, and despite knowing just how tough it will be, he’s looking forward to seeing what a youthful England side can do.

"For us this will be a big test," Cahill told the Bobby Moore Fund.

"I have played them before and we’ve done okay against them in the past. But they’re always difficult games and it’s always good to test yourself against high-calibre players.

"Neymar is obviously a big global star now but if you put all that to one side his football ability is just magnificent. Neymar, along with others like Willian, the list goes on.

"They have some very technically gifted players, some very fast players, and it will be difficult and tough like it always is. I don't know anybody who has played Brazil and said they had an easy ride so I am sure it will be a hard game.

"They’re very creative and they’re very hard to read. With those sorts of players, things just come off the cuff. They see things very fast. They’re very quick. And they are unpredictable – in a good way; in a dangerous way."

As Southgate looks to bring a youthful look to his England side, Cahill has developed into a far more senior role than he’s experienced at major tournaments in the past, and while it’s a new experience for him the Chelsea defender is excited about where the new-look side could go.

"I don’t know about enjoy [being one of the senior players], It is just the way it’s played out," he added.

"We have a very young squad at the minute but it’s exciting for me to be involved because you wonder how far this team can go and what these guys can achieve in the future.

"There are only a couple of us older guys but I don’t mind. Obviously we have more experience than the younger ones so if I can help out in that way it’s great.

"But it is just really exciting to see what the young players coming through can do in the future."

The Bobby Moore Fund will have a presence at the game next week, with fundraising taking place in and around Wembley stadium, including at Wembley Park and Wembley Central stations.
