Gary Neville believes that while Manchester United look likely to qualify for the Champions League, they must develop their game to stand any chance of competing for the Premier League title.

United ended Manchester City's impressive 21-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory at the Etihad last week, but followed that up with a 1-1 Europa League home draw against AC Milan on Thursday night.

The Red Devils were also well below their best in a 1-0 League win over West Ham on Sunday evening, highlighting the fact that for all United's impressive talent on the counter-attack, they have struggled to break down teams defending with a deep block.

Former United defender Neville felt they could take satisfaction from Sunday's result, but will need to take their game on if they are to compete with City next season.

"They won, that's the main thing," Neville told Sky Sports. "I think they will think that was a big step towards securing Champions League football, being nine points ahead of West Ham.

"We know United do struggle to break down teams.

“If you think how City break down teams that sit deep against them, Manchester United just aren't capable of that yet.

"They've got to get better against teams that are sat back in those deep blocks.

“That's where the next stage of development has got to come. If they don't start doing that better they won't win this Premier League."
