Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks pay tribute to Mauricio Pochettino after shock Tottenham exit

Harry Kane has led the tributes to sacked Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

During his time in charge of the club, the 47-year-old Argentine has been instrumental in developing a number of young players.

Top of that list is Kane, who has gone from being an academy player to the captain of England, and this morning he saluted Pochettino for his achievements at Spurs.

Kane wrote on Twitter: “Gaffer. I will be forever thankful to you for helping me achieve my dreams. We’ve had some amazing moments in the last 5 and a half years that I will never forget.

“You were my manager but my friend as well and I thank you for that relationship. Good luck with your next chapter!”

Fellow England international Dele Alli was another player who thanked his former manager, under whose guidance he has developed immensely.

The midfielder was signed from League One side MK Dons in 2015 for around £5million and is now a regular for Spurs, while he was also part of England’s squads for the last two major tournaments. “I can’t thank this man enough. He’s taught me so much and I’m so grateful for everything he’s done for me. Good luck and hope to see you again my friend,” Alli wrote on Twitter.

Midfielder Harry Winks, who made his Tottenham debut under Pochettino back in 2014, also paid tribute to the Argentine Wednesday morning by taking to social media.

“Gaffer I will be forever grateful for the faith and trust you placed in me. You gave me my opportunity to achieve my dream of playing for our great club,” he wrote on Instragram.

“Thank you for all the things you have taught me both as a player and as a man. Wishing you the very best of luck for the future. Thank you!”

Pochettino’s departure from Tottenham last night was announced just as Spurs centre-half Toby Alderweireld was getting ready to play for Belgium against Cyprus.

Speaking after his country’s 6-1 victory, the centre-back was quick to applaud Pochettino for his stint in north London.

“It is never nice to see your manager leave,” said Alderweireld. “We have to be very thankful to him for what he achieved at the club and I think he brought this club to the next level.”

Fellow Spurs defender Ben Davies predicted Pochettino would “go onto bigger and better things” following his departure.

“I was very shocked [to hear he had been sacked],” said Davies, who found out Pochettino had been axed following Wales’ 2-0 win over Hungary on Tuesday night.

“I’d like to put on record that it has been amazing to work with him for the last five years.”
