Harry Kane missed Tottenham's first training session of the post-Jose Mourinho era as the club continues to sweat on his ankle injury ahead of the Carabao Cup Final.

Kane limped off in the dying minutes of Friday's 2-2 draw at Everton, having scored twice in what proved to be Mourinho's final game in charge of the club.

He has since undergone assessments, including a scan, but was not part of Monday's delayed session, which was overseen by Ryan Mason and followed Mourinho's dismissal late morning after he was called to chairman Daniel Levy's office.

Kane is not expected to be fit for Wednesday's visit of Southampton in the Premier League, although it remains unclear if he has a chance of facing Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday.

The England captain, who has a history of ankle injuries, walked away from Goodison Park without the aid of crutches or a protective boot, raising hopes that he has not suffered ligament damage.

A prognosis is expected during Tottenham's press conference on Tuesday ahead of their meeting with Saints, with the briefing set to be conducted by Mason.

Kane was the first Spurs player to publicly pay tribute to Mourinho after his dismissing, writing on Twitter: "Thank you for everything Boss. A pleasure to have worked together. I wish you all the best for your next chapter."

Heung-min Son also offered an emotional goodbye to the Portuguese, saying: "I have no words to describe how I'm feeling, it's been a pleasure to work with you, I'm sorry things didn't work out and truly grateful for the time we've had together. Good luck and all the best for the future".

Doorstepped on Monday afternoon outside his London home, while unpacking his possession from his car in Tottenham branded bags, Mourinho declined to give much away.

"Not now to speak," the Portuguese told Sky Sports News. "You know me, you know I'm not going to say anything. No need for breaks and [recharging my] batteries. I'm always in football."
