Jamie Vardy isn’t worth £30 million and, in any case, I’d tell him to stay at Leicester no matter who comes in for him next month.
I am a big fan of his but I don’t think anyone would pay that. It seems a fortune, to me. Someone might pay £18m for him but he’s 28 so hasn’t got a lot of resale value.
I’ve said before, I’m not sure the top clubs think he’s sexy enough and if you are Leicester, you would obviously want to keep him.
They have got seriously rich owners and while they are top of the League, they have a clear case for convincing him to stay. They could easily make the Champions League.
He should stay put, keep doing what he is doing, target a place in the England squad at Euro 2016 and look at his situation again in the summer.
The January transfer window is a very difficult time to buy. Most sides don’t want to sell their best players because it is the middle of the season, they have their own targets to achieve and they are unlikely to have time to find the right replacement.
Look at Tottenham. Everyone is saying they need another striker, which is right. But where are they going to find one from? Okay, they could sign a kid but there’s no guarantee he’ll be able to deliver straight away.
A more proven goalscorer at a lower level isn’t going to be ahead of Harry Kane in the pecking order so won’t play every week. How unappealing is that for a player in the team every week where he is, scoring goals, who suddenly has the chance to sit on the bench at White Hart Lane? It is not impossible but doing the right business in January is extremely difficult.
