Arsenal have completed the £65million signing of Chelsea star Kai Havertz.

The German international becomes the first signing of what could be a busy transfer window at the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz, who joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen for around £71m in the summer of 2020, has signed a five-year contract with the Gunners.

He will take the No29 shirt he wore at Chelsea. Previously at Arsenal, that number has been held by the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka and Kim Kallstrom.

Explaining his preference for the shirt number, Havertz said: "So I have it now for many years. I chose it when I became a professional in Germany and since then it’s always given me luck.

“You know when I became a professional I took it because it has some history with my brother. We used to take it always when we played video games together.

“For me it’s a perfect number and I cannot wait to wear it playing in red again."

The fee makes the 24-year-old the second-most expensive player in Arsenal history, underlining the belief Mikel Arteta has in Havertz.

There is a feeling that the man who scored the winning goal for Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League final can have a transformative impact on the Gunners.

Havertz’s versatility is thought to have attracted Arteta with the German able to play across the frontline as well as in a deeper midfield role.
