Heskey Cam set to take off in Australia

25 October 2012

Emile Heskey is coming under more scrutiny than he could have imagined when he agreed to quit England and play in Australia's A-League.

The former England striker, who plays for Newcastle Jets, will be the subject of a special 'Heskey Cam', set up to monitor his moves for the full 90 minutes of his side's clash with Melbourne Victory tomorrow.

Describing Heskey as a 'marquee player', Australian broadcaster Fox Sports bills the innovation: "Heskey Cam gives you it all: one camera, one hero; every pass, every run, everything Heskey does on the pitch, you'll see it first with Heskey Cam, the dedicated broadcast providing a rare insight into what makes Heskey so good."

The practice could indeed be an enlightening one. The 34-year-old netted once in every 4.6 games during his career at Leicester City, Liverpool, Birmingham, Wigan and Aston Villa. He managed only seven goals in 62 England appearances.

Heskey has previously admitted that he had been "umming and ahhing" about joining the A-League until Sydney FC's signing of former Juventus star Alessando Del Piero convinced him of the quality of the Australian league.
