Today ITV announced that Mark Pougatch would be taking over as a presenter of the channel’s football coverage, with Adrian Chiles on his way out after four years at the head of ITV’s football coverage. And the internet erupted.
Chiles, who made a controversial switch from the BBC to ITV back 2010, has felt the wrath of the public across social media before. Remember those shorts at the World Cup?
His departure from ITV’s football coverage seems set to end Chiles’ spell with the broadcaster, who he controversially left the BBC for along with Christine Bleakley in 2010. The pair were hired to host the breakfast television show Daybreak, but Chiles only lasted until November 2011 before being replaced as ratings flagged.
Certainly the crisp endorsement deals never quite materialised for the gruff former presenter of The Apprentice: You’re Fired and The One Show.
As far as some Twitter users are concerned the news deserved the sort of uniformly positive reaction traditionally reserved for cat pictures and Game of Thrones gifs.
