'I was wrong' - Arsene Wenger refuses to confirm Arsenal future despite self-imposed deadline passing

Arsene Wenger continues to refuse questions over his future at Arsenal despite the self-imposed two-window to reveal having passed.

The manager's contract is currently set to expire at the end of next month with an extension - understood to be two years - yet to be announced amid fan unrest at a disappointing season.

Last Sunday's loss to Tottenham, in the final derby at White Hart Lane, confirmed the north London rivals will finish above the Gunners for the first time during Wenger's 21-year tenure.

Ahead of February's FA Cup game against non-league Sutton United, Wenger told reporters he would decide on his future in "March, April probably" but has delayed any announcement.

When questioned on the timeframe, the Frenchman replied: "We are in May, so I was wrong."

Next up for Arsenal is Sunday's visit of Manchester United, a game crucial for both sides as they look to finish in the top four.

The loss at White Hart Lane saw Arsenal's Champions League qualification hopes move out of their hands but Wenger feels a "big game" is perfect for his players to "bounce back".

"Of course we are disappointed by our result and performance," he said.

"There is no better way than to have a big game again. Now even winning the games doesn’t guarantee the top four. It is not completely in our hands."
