Injured Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris to miss Premier League trip to Watford

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has been ruled out of Sunday's clash against Watford after picking up a thigh injury.

The 31-year-old, who played in the 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night, will miss the trip to Vicarage Road with Michel Vorm likely to deputise in his absence.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is hopeful Lloris will return for the game against Liverpool on September 15, adding that the injury is "not a big issue."

The France international was arrested and charged with drink driving earlier last week just days before the game against United, but Pochettino decided to keep his faith in the Frenchman.

Lloris joins compatriot Moussa Sissoko on the sidelines as the midfielder is struggling with a hamstring injury. The club will assess Erik Lamela's fitness before Sunday's game after he picked up a thigh problem.

Tottenham and Watford both head into Sunday's encounter with a 100 per cent record after three games but Pochettino believes the best is yet to come from his side.

"I want to improve because after three games, in the end it's only the beginning of the season, we need to show we are contenders in 10 months and we need to improve our performance," the Argentinian coach said.

"We are not ready, we believe because we beat Manchester United 3-0, I know it's fantastic but I think we are going to crash. That is my mood, that is my thoughts, that is how we feel in football."
