The FA have charged Brentford striker Ivan Toney with 232 alleged breaches of betting rules.

The charges related to the period between February 25, 2017 and January 23, 2021 according to a statement released by English football’s governing body on Wednesday.

Toney, 26, has until Thursday, November 24 to respond to the charges regarding FA Rule E8.

Earlier this month, the player - who has not been selected for Gareth Southgate’s England squad at the World Cup - said he was assisting the FA with their investigation.

He stated: “I have been assisting the Football Association with their enquiries and will not be making any comment until such investigation has reached its conclusion.”

Toney signed for Brentford in a deal worth up to £10million in 2020 and has scored 58 goals in 105 games for the Premier League club.

A club statement added: “The club has been in discussion with Ivan and his legal representatives about this matter and those conversations will continue privately. We will make no further comment until the matter has been completed.”

Southgate called the striker up for Nations League games earlier in the season but he was ultimately not selected for his England debut.
