Jack Wilshere is not expected to link up with Arsenal’s pre-season tour until Thursday after Arsene Wenger confirmed the midfielder had suffered a ‘slight patella problem’.

Wilshere teamed-up with the Arsenal squad for pre-season training at London Colney on July 15 following England’s disappointing Euro 2016 campaign.

Eager to move on from France, he posted a photo on Instagram writing ‘what's done is done, all I can do now is prepare for next season the best I can!’, but the midfielder has fallen foul through injury once again.

Wilshere’s first start for Arsenal last season came in their 4-0 victory over Aston Villa, in May.

Speaking to the press, Wenger confirmed that the 24-year-old had suffered a knee injury, but was quick to play down its significance.

"It's a slight patella problem but I think he should be with us on tour on Thursday," said Wenger. "I hope he will, yes."

Wilshere is expected to miss Arsenal’s forthcoming pre-season match with Viking on Friday, and their final pre-season fixture against Manchester City, in Gothenburg on Sunday.
