Crystal Palace are close to finalising a £12million move for West Ham defender James Tomkins.

Palace have reached an agreement with West Ham and the 27-year-old is set to complete a switch to Selhurst Park after successful talks with Alan Pardew.

West Ham confirmed to Standard Sport this weekend that Tomkins had not travelled with the rest of the squad for their pre-season tour of the US, with the club touching down in Seattle on Saturday.

Tomkins, who can play as a centre-back or right-back, made 243 appearances for West Ham. He will become Palace’s third summer signing following winger Andros Townsend and goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Palace look set to spend big this summer and are also being linked with a move for Liverpool forward Christian Benteke.
