Jimmy Greaves: Tottenham great Glenn Hoddle urges 'true legend' to keep fighting

Jimmy Greaves has spent a second night in hospital, as Glenn Hoddle urged Tottenham’s greatest-ever goalscorer to “keep fighting”.

Hoddle, who watched Greaves on the terraces as a young fan at White Hart Lane, tweeted: “Please all say a prayer for Jimmy Greaves, a true legend. Keep fighting, Jim.”

Greaves was admitted to a hospital near his home in Essex on Tuesday, although he is not thought to have coronavirus nor to have suffered another stroke.

The Spurs, Chelsea and England great has been wheelchair-bound since suffering a stroke in 2015.

On Wednesday, Greaves' agent and friend Terry Baker said on Facebook that the 80-year-old was undergoing tests and had spoken to wife Irene over the phone from hospital.

"Hopefully he won’t be in hospital for too long," he said.

"Thanks for the 1000s of you showing concern. England’s greatest ever goalscorer is still with us and here’s hoping he’s home soon."
