Joe Gomez and England's young stars impress Joe Hart in Brazil draw

Joe Hart congratulated Joe Gomez for his man-of-the-match display as England and Brazil played out a 0-0 draw at Wembley.

The Liverpool defender was handed his full debut for the senior side, after coming on against Germany four days ago, and impressed against a front three of Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho.

"I thought the defensive backline were phenomenal," Hart old ITV. Joe played against one of the best players in the world and was excellent.

"We have played two of the best teams in the world, we didn’t win, but we didn’t lose.

"This was a good trip for Joe Gomez, Dominic Solanke, Jordan Pickford - we want England to do well in the future and we always do our best."

Gomez was one of six youngsters Gareth Southgate handed debuts for over the two games, with Solanke the last at Wembley on Tuesday, and the former Charlton Athletic man was delighted to take his chance.

He said: "We put in a good shift and we're happy with that. It's a great honour, I'll keep trying to improve and hopefully more of these days will come."
