Bafetimbi Gomis, the Swansea City striker, needs to do more on the pitch if he's to be respected by the club's fans, according to former Wales striker John Hartson.

Gomis, who is understood to be a target of Crystal Palace, is now Garry Monk's first choice forward following the sale of Willfried Bony to Manchester City.

Before Bony left the Welsh club, Gomis criticised his manager for not playing him enough this season. The Frenchman has scored only once this season despite featuring in 13 matches.

"Gomis seems to be doing a lot of talking off the pitch, but certainly now he needs to start doing his talking on it," Hartson said.

"He has an opportunity now to show the fans. He gets the shirt, he'll play every week, no more Bony, and he's got a chance now.

"He's on big wages... he came from Lyon [on a free transfer] with a big reputation."

Gomis's agent said today that he could not comment on the player's possible transfer to Selhurst Park.
