Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho praised his side’s defensive performance as they held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates.

The Chelsea boss gave special attention to John Terry, who, according to his manager, played his best game ever for his side.

It was an obdurate and disciplined display from the visitors, with Arsenal’s attacking ranks unable to breach Thibaut Courtois’ goal. Mourinho, who has managed John Terry on two separate occasions and is set to win his third title with his captain, was clear who had been responsible for securing Chelsea’s point.

"I told John Terry in the dressing room that he made fantastic performances with me but this was his best,” Mourinho said to Sky Sports. "It was the best JT has ever played. It was absolutely amazing."

The Chelsea captain could not control himself at the final whistle, celebrating as if the result had been enough to secure a first title since 2010. Terry told Sky Sports: "It's a big step. It's still not done mathematically, but it's a big step.

Five things we learned at Arsenal vs Chelsea

“The main thing was to not let Arsenal gain points on us. They're a very good side, but we nullified them and played very well, I thought."

As the full-time whistle rang at the Emirates the home fans chanted “Boring, Boring Chelsea” but Mourinho did not concern himself with accusations of negative football, saying that his side had got what they wanted.

"We got what we got. I leave it to you to analyse but we performed very, very, very well against a team in second place with nothing to lose and everything to win," Mourinho said. "The game was under in control.

"It is a point. We need five to be champions and we are in the countdown... The team is very confident and playing extremely well so we know it is in our hands.”
