Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy says the club have appointed ‘one of the most successful managers in football’ to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

Less than 12 hours after Pochettino’s shock departure, Spurs confirmed the appointment of Mourinho in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss signing a deal until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Tottenham sit in 14th place in the Premier League, having taken just 14 points from 12 games – form that leaves them 11 points off the top four.

But Levy believes their new man has the ‘energy and belief’ to turn things around.

“In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football,” Levy told the club’s official website.

“He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
