Jose Mourinho has urged Chelsea fans to be patient with new £26.1m signing Juan Cuadrado and is adamant he wasn't a panic buy.

Cuadrado joined from Fiorentina on Monday, with Mohamed Salah moving in the opposite direction on loan, while Andre Schurrle moved to Wolfsburg in a deal worth up to £27.5m.

Mourinho hinted it is unlikely the 26-year-old will start at Aston Villa tomorrow due to a lack of training time with the squad this week.

However, he is confident the Colombia international will prove to be a good addition over the coming months and years.

He said: "I don't think the best thing for him is to speak about expectations. He needs time like everyone. He will have his time.

"He has trained for just two days so I can't say much (about whether he is ready to start). The transfer was almost last minute on the Monday and then he had to go to Paris for visa and legal issues on tuesday so I can't say much.

"It's not a panic buy, it's a reaction to Schurrle. He is a player that we know for a long time. I played (managed) in his league for two seasons, I could control (monitor) him week after week and we are happy with our business.

"Schurrle is a player we like very much but the business was very good and we are happy with it."

When asked if he had any regrets about how Schurrle, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen just 18 months ago, had already left the club, Mourinho added: "No, we are happy with what he gave us.

"We are happy with the investment we did one and a half years ago and the profit we did in this window.

"Hopefully we made him a better player and hopefully he have success in the future because we like him very much."

Mourinho has been handed a major boost with the news that Cesc Fabregas, who has 15 assists in the top flight this term, is fit again after a hamstring problem.

John Obi Mikel is also in the squad following a blow to the head, but Filipe Luis (calf) and Diego Costa (suspended) are still out.
