Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he and his Liverpool players saluted the crowd after their 2-2 draw with West Brom due to the 'best atmosphere' he had experienced at Anfield.

The Merseysiders took the lead through Jordan Henderson's early strike but were pegged back after a Simon Mignolet mistake gave Craig Dawson a chance to equalise on the half hour mark.

Jonas Olsson headed the Baggies into the lead only for Divock Origi to net a dramatic equaliser and rescue a point for the Reds in front of the Kop.

Liverpool missed the chance to close the gap to the top four after they failed to beat Tony Pulis's side but Klopp urged his side to celebrate in front of their home crowd at full time.

The Liverpool players linked arms and clapped the Anfield crowd in a move that proved to be divisive among fans' on social media given that the team had only salvaged a point rather than won the game.

But Klop has revealed that he wanted his players to thank the fans for their support after securing a point against the bottom-half visitors.

"It was the best atmosphere since I came here," the German coach explained.

"Of course people are disappointed but they didn't let us feel that. They saw that the lads tried everything and played football.

"We stayed in the game, had a few moments where we not so good, but only set plays that cost us.

"If we can do that better then maybe win games more easily."

Liverpool climbed to ninth place in the table after the draw with the Baggies and face a trip to Watford next weekend.
