League appoint former Cable boss as chairman

11 April 2012

The Football League today appointed Greg Clarke, the former chief executive of Cable and Wireless Communications, to be their chairman.

Clarke succeeds Lord Brian Mawhinney, who has stepped down after seven years but who is in line to be made honorary president of the League.

A Leicester City supporter, the 52-year-old stepped down as chief executive of O3b, the Google-backed satellite broadband company.

Clarke, who was chairman of Leicester for a short period and helped them through administration in 2002, said: "My time there provided an insight into the challenges clubs face daily. The lessons I learned won't be forgotten."
