Liverpool have been known to turn a blind eye to Luis Suarez’s indiscretions in the past, and so it proved again as the club website’s Uruguay v Italy match report did not even mention the striker‘s clash with Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Reds striker appeared to bite the Juventus centre-back in Uruguay’s 1-0 win over the Azzuri and will likely face retrospective action from FIFA after the referee failed to spot it.

Suarez’s latest controversy set Twitter alight and he has been widely condemned but Liverpoolfc.com was more concerned with the fact that “Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates was an unused substitute in Natal.”

It’s unlikely that Liverpool were unaware of the storm that was about to be created by the incident, but the Merseyside club will have to decide whether to publicly stand by their man yet again if, as expected, he is banned retrospectively by FIFA.

Failing that, they can debate whether Coates should start for the South Americans in their next match.
