Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool are ‘working on’ midfield signing after Romeo Lavia bid

Reds continue to rebuild midfield after difficult season

Jurgen Klopp says it is “clear” Liverpool need to strengthen their midfield even further this summer.

After a difficult season last time out, the Reds are working to revamp their options in that department, with much of the criticism stemming from there.

Jordan Henderson has now followed Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain through the Anfield exit doors following his controversial move to Saudi Arabia.

Fabinho is widely expected to join Al-Ittihad, representing a major change in personnel.

Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer but remain active in the transfer market.

They are believed to have seen a bid worth around £37m for midfielder Romeo Lavia rejected by Southampton but are thought to be ready to make another offer.

Klopp says he is “really optimistic” about the new options he’s working with and criticised those who may suggest the team is undergoing too much change.

“It’s definitely important to strengthen in midfield,” he said.

“We have to do something, that is clear.

“We are working on solutions. First people want changes, now everyone is worrying about the changes. We are really optimistic about it. Excited as well.”
