Liverpool suffer blow as Martin Skrtel is ruled out for eight weeks

11 April 2012

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel will miss most of the rest of the season due to the broken metatarsal he sustained against Unirea Urziceni.

The club announced Skrtel would be absent for up to eight weeks because of the injury to his right foot.

Skrtel will not need surgery, Liverpool said on their website, however the recovery process looks set to mean he will be unavailable to manager Rafael Benitez until the end of April.

The 25-year-old Slovakian had to be substituted midway through the second half of Liverpool's 3-1 Europa League victory in Bucharest.
