Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Luis Suarez would be making a big mistake if he joins Barcelona, because he feels Real Madrid present a better fit for the Liverpool striker.

The Uruguayan appears close to moving to Camp Nou, after the clubs held 'productive talks' this week.

The deal, which would see Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez move in the opposite direction, would help Liverpool recoup almost all of the money spent on Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Rickie Lambert, with the club also interested in capturing Switzerland star Xherdan Shaqiri.

But despite the attraction of moving to Camp Nou - his wife is from the Catalan city - Scholes believes the striker would be making a big mistake; insisting he would be better off joining Real Madrid.

"Suarez is a centre forward and he won't want to play out wide," Scholes wrote for Paddy Power. "I can't see Suarez and Messi linking well together.

"It seems to me, if Messi likes you, you'll play.

"If he doesn't, you're wasting your time. And, to be honest, I think Suarez is making a bit of a mistake going to Barcelona – he'd be better suited to Real Madrid," he continued.

"If Luis Suarez does sign for Barcelona from Liverpool, will Lionel Messi 'accept' him?"
