Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has joked he could sign for Real Madrid at the end of the season as his future at Anfield remains in doubt.

The centre-back's current contract with Liverpool expires in June and, despite the club suffering a defensive injury crisis with Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel all sidelined, Toure's long-term future at the club is unclear.

The former Ivory Coast international was named in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI against Stoke on Tuesday and, after he managed to play for the full 90 minutes through cramp, Toure has joked that such a performance could result in him joining Real at the end of the season.

"If I can play like that then maybe I will go to Real Madrid," Toure said.

"I don't know what I'll do at the end of this season, but I'd like to stay in the Premier League.

"My kids are here and it is difficult to move. I am loving every day but God knows where I will be in a year’s time.

"But I hope it's playing football because I love it."
