Liverpool transfer news: No Anfield contact over Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, reveals Schalke chief

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has received no contact from Liverpool over the availability of Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The 30-year-old, who is currently in Brazil with the Netherlands squad, has been linked with a move to Anfield.

With Luis Suarez expected to depart Liverpool this summer, Brendan Rodgers is looking to bolster his frontline, having already signed England international Rickie Lambert.

Huntelaar scored 12 in 17 Bundesliga starts last season and was last week coy on speculation surrounding a switch to the Premier League, but Heldt has dismissed reports a deal is in the pipeline.

"Most recently, I've read that Liverpool should have interest in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar," he told Schalke’s

"Liverpool, Klaas-Jan and also his adviser have not contacted us.

"And we also have no interest in selling the player."

Huntelaar has made two substitute appearances under national boss Louis van Gaal at the World Cup finals in Brazil, scoring the winner against Mexico in the last 16.

The Netherlands are preparing to face Argentina in the semi-final in Sao Paulo in Wednesday.
