After yesterday brought relatively successful results for Tottenham, Southampton and Arsenal Rodgers knows that it is vital to kick-start Liverpool’s stuttering season.

Speaking ahead of the game he said: “We know we will be much better in the second part of the season than the first. In my two years here, that is what has happened – we’ve got better and better as the season has gone on, and we have to this year.”

Simon Mignolet will return to the starting lineup for the Reds after his “indefinite” period out of the side was brought to an abrupt end by an injury to reserve keeper Brad Jones. Mignolet was dropped after conceding three against Manchester United a fortnight ago.

Swansea will travel to Liverpool after back-to-back victories that have moved them up to eighth. The Swans will be eager to avenge their League Cup defeat in October when much-maligned summer signings Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren scored in the final few minutes to eliminate the visitors.
