Arsenal and Liverpool played out what may just have been the game of the season in the driving rain and snow of Anfield, playing out a 3-3 draw over which no-one could complain.

The hosts started much the brighter of the two sides and got the lead they deserved inside the first ten minutes. Emre Can was given space on the edge of the area, his shot was parried into the path of Firmino and the hosts led.

Four minutes later Arsenal were level, Aaron Ramsey proving his attacking quality by bursting beyond the Liverpool defence to connect with Joel Campbell’s immaculate through ball.

Ramsey nearly repeated the trick in the first half only for Sakho to clear off the line, by which time a stunning Firmino curler had restored Liverpool’s advantage.

Olivier Giroud once more tied the game up though, as he converted at the near post from an Ozil corner on 25 minutes. Minutes later he missed from inches out, typifying a bizarre, thrilling first-half.

After a breathless opening the game quietened somewhat, with Arsenal’s quality starting to tell in the second half. Giroud would make it 3-2 with a powerful, curling effort after great work by Bellerin.
