Jurgen Klopp could be forced to hand a Liverpool debut to either Andy Lonergan or Caoimhin Kelleher at Southampton on Saturday.
With first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker already sidelined by a calf injury, the Reds’ options between the sticks were hit by a further blow on Wednesday.
During celebrations of the Uefa Super Cup win over Chelsea, a pitch-invading supporter slipped into back-up shot-stopper Adrian San Miguel, injuring his ankle .
And that means Klopp may have to decide between academy prospect Kelleher and the veteran Lonergan, who was only offered a contract following Alisson’s fitness blow.
The manager said: “Caoimhin Kelleher is now in training, so if we have to make a decision then we have to make a decision.
“Adrian came in a week before, Andy Lonergan trained longer with us and played [the] first half against Sevilla in a pre-season game.
“Caoimhin, who we all are completely excited about, a young boy with the potential he has and stuff like that, was not in training for a while, but is now in training - not 100 per cent training, but nearly 100 per cent since a week and a half [ago].
“He has to be in training today, we will see and then we will make a decision.”
Klopp may look to freshen things up on the south coast after an energy-sapping 120 minutes in Istanbul on Wednesday.
But he will not be able to call on midfielder Naby Keita, who picked up a muscle problem in training the night before that Super Cup success.
“[He is] not available,” the German revealed.
“It’s a muscle thing and we don’t know exactly how long it will take. But he’s not available.”
