Liverpool will wait before following in Manchester City’s footsteps and beginning the process of refunding season ticket holders for the remainder of 2019/20, Standard Sport has learned.
On Wednesday, the reigning Premier League champions contacted supporters in possession of tickets for the still-outstanding fixtures offering to reimburse them.
While the terms of ‘Project Restart’ have yet to be fully agreed, it is all but certain that any attempts to resume the campaign will take place behind closed doors.
As such, City have elected to begin offering refunds to those who had purchased tickets for their 10 remaining league games.
When contacted by Standard Sport, Liverpool intimated that they will not follow suit just yet, preferring instead to wait for official confirmation of behind-closed-doors fixtures.
This means supporters will be forced to wait for a refund on tickets for matches originally scheduled to take place up to two months ago.
The Reds have, however, already confirmed that they are happy to reimburse ticket holders once the Premier League’s plans have been finalised.
A statement released by the club in April read: “In the event that the remaining 2019-20 home games cannot be played in front of supporters, we will provide either a refund for the equivalent value of the remaining home games to all season ticket holders and hospitality members, or the pro-rata value of the individual affected home matches as credit against their 2020-21 season ticket.
“This rebate or refund will also be applicable to all official Members, general admission supporters and matchday hospitality ticket holders who have purchased for the affected games in the 2019-20 season.”
