Sadio Mane hailed a dream come true after helping Liverpool to Champions League glory in Madrid.

The Senegalese capped another fine season on a personal level with collective success for the first time since joining the Reds as they ended their trophy drought by clinching the biggest prize in European football.

An early Mohamed Salah penalty, won when Mane's cross was handled by Moussa Sissoko, and Divock Origi's late strike helped Jurgen Klopp's men to a 2-0 win over Tottenham.

And afterward, Liverpool's No10 admitted the reality of what had occurred at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium had yet to sink in.

"To be honest I think the dream became true. I don't even know how happy I am, I could not believe until now," he said.

"I think I'm still dreaming! But at the end of the day I won, so really happy.

"Very happy, very proud. I don’t have the words to describe how happy I am. Of course, it’s one of the best [nights of my life]. It was not easy, it was a long way, but at the end of the day we did it together so really happy and really proud."

Klopp and co shrugged off the pain of defeat in last season's final to bounce straight back and clinch the trophy - and Mane believes the experiences of the run to Kiev were crucial to winning in Madrid.

He continued: "I think last year was not easy. It was really, really hard but that's football. That makes people love football.

"We have learned a lot this year, so we're just really happy. The lesson we learned is in many ways, in many things.

"We've got more experience and at the same time we're used to playing this type of game. It made it easier today."

After three recent final defeats and a near-miss in the Premier League this term, Liverpool finally have the major silverware to reflect their recent progress.

Mane feels that could be a catalyst for further success, with hopes of ending the club's long wait for a league title at the forefront of minds.

He added: "For sure, I think it’s the start of something special like everybody mentioned because last year we were close and this season we won it.

"So, next year [we go] for the league and Champions League. We know it will not be easy but we are Liverpool, we are strong, we will do everything and we still have a young team.

"We will keep learning and working hard to get more trophies."
