Chelsea striker Milan Lalkovic has joined League One Walsall on a six-month loan deal.

The versatile attacking player signed for the Blues in 2010 after climbing through the club’s academy ranks, but has never made a senior appearance.

Lalkovic has had unsuccessful loan spells on three previous occasions - at Doncaster, Den Haag and Vitoria de Guimaraes.

The 20-year-old struggled to find his feet in the temporary surroundings, failing to score at any of his adopted clubs.

But his record in front of goal does not perturb Walsall manager Dean Smith, who has inquired about the Slovakian Under-21 international’s availability in the past.

"He is a player that I have tried to sign on loan a couple of times previously," Smith said.

"I am delighted to finally be able to bring him here."

The added firepower will encourage the Saddlers to push for promotion, after falling six points shy of a play-off spot last term.
