Lukas Podolski reaping Arsenal reward

12 October 2012

Lukas Podolski’s move to Arsenal is making him a more complete player, says Germany coach Joachim Low, who named him as one of the few “indispensables” he has.

Podolski earned his 100th cap during Euro 2012 but was on the bench for the quarter-final with Greece and came off at half-time of the semi-final defeat to Italy.

With players such as Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze and Marco Reus coming through, the talk was that the forward had only a limited international future ahead of him.

Low would not publicly guarantee the 27-year-old a start against the Republic of Ireland tonight but insisted: “I can only say positive things about him.

“I have always been able to count on him for many years. That makes him indispensable for us.

“I always said joining Arsenal would be a good move for him. The progress he is making there is very positive. He always has such a positive energy about him and is benefiting from his experiences with Arsenal.”

The German has scored two goals in his first seven appearances for the Gunners.
