Manchester United Foundation are donating £300,000 to schools and colleges in a latest move in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Foundation has confirmed it will ringfence the money for vulnerable families in the community.

It will provide £10,000 to each of its partner schools and colleges for food, clothing, energy, medication, IT equipment and other essentials.

Foundation CEO John Shiels said: “We really value the relationship we have with our schools, and in the spirit of true partnerships, we are delighted to be able to offer support to those families who are most in need right now. Our coaches usually work with these children day-in-day-out and this way we are able to still make a difference and give them a sense of hope at this difficult time.”

Last week United announced plans to provide 60,000 meals for NHS staff in their ongoing bid to aid those fighting Covid-19.

They have already donated 30,000 items of food and drink to local charities as well as club medical and protective supplies to local hospitals.

A £50,000 donation was made to local food banks, with a fleet of vehicles made available to the NHS.

Staff have also been encouraged to volunteer.
