Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba partnership having an immediate impact on Manchester United team-mates

Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba have even got their Manchester United team-mates excited about their long-awaited unveiling in a new-look midfield.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been working on patterns of play between the pair as he prepares to unleash them on the Premier League for the first time.

The United manager made a point of teaming them up together when his squad was forced to work in small groups in phase one of Project Restart, hoping they would quickly develop a relationship.

He has stepped that up as clubs have been given clearance to return to full training, with the duo impressing other members of the squad.

Solskjaer believes Pogba’s return from an ankle injury will give United the edge in the final weeks of the season as United aim to secure a top four finish and target silverware in the FA Cup and Europa League.

He has already seen Fernandes have a transformative effect on his side since the Portugal international’s £47million move from Sporting Lisbon in January and is convinced the two can form a devastating partnership.

Luke Shaw has revealed how the two players have performed so far in training – both working with and against each other.

“Bruno’s been so important, with the chances he’s created, the goals he’s scored and, hopefully, there’s still much more to come from him,” he told United’s website. “I’m sure he’s still settling into the Premier League to an extent, which makes what he’s done all the more impressive.

“He was paired with Paul in a small training group last week, which people saw on the videos, and we saw flashes of what they were capable of.

“The coaches have switched it up so it’s not just them on the same team and it’s quite nice to see them battling against each other – they’ve already had some great games against each other – but, personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing them line up together.

“They’re probably two of the best midfielders in the [Premier League] right now, I’d say, so it’s going to be fascinating to see them play together.”

Fernandes is also relishing teaming up with Pogba for the first time.

"I think Paul is one of the best players in Manchester and in the world," he said on Instagram. "He was injured for a lot of time. The opportunity to play side to side with him is fantastic because you want to play with the best players you can."
