A heavily rotated Manchester United lineup fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday night - a result which also saw Man City crowned Premier League champions.

Man Utd player ratings vs Leicester

David de Gea 6

Back in a Premier League starting XI, but very much as No2 goalkeeper. After a great performance in the 3-2 defeat at AS Roma, the Spaniard could do nothing about Thomas' opener. Made a good save to deny Iheanacho, but again could do nothing about Soyuncu’s header.

Brandon Williams 6

Short of chances this year given Aaron Wan-Bissaka's fine form and fitness, he would benefit with a loan move next season.

Eric Bailly 5

With Harry Maguire out with an ankle injury, Bailly - who recently signed a new contract - now has a golden chance to stake a claim for a starting role, but this was not a good start. Was fooled too easily by a Vardy drop of the shoulder in the first half, and was also sloppy on the ball. Must do better if he starts vs Liverpool.

Axel Tuanzebe 7

Since bossing Kylian Mbappe in Paris, Tuanzebe has struggled to make the step up to first-team regular. As with Bailly, this was a great chance to impress. Decent positioning for one clearance after Bailly was caught cold by Vardy, and grew into the game after the break as the better of the two centre-backs.

Alex Telles 6

Targeted down the left flank by Leicester early doors. Showed the better side of his game to drive forward and put pressure on without really being able to get in his trademark deliveries. Won plenty of defensive headers from corners.

Donny van de Beek 5

A rare Premier League start for the Dutch international, he was tasked with being the legs in midfield alongside Matic. One poor turn in midfield almost let Leicester in on the break - if you're going to be neat and tidy rather than blood and thunder, you simply can't lose the ball there. DId most of his best work inside his own box with vital blocks.

Nemanja Matic 6

Lent experience to a young side with a rotated defence. Good range of passing from the back and looked to break the lines.

Amad Diallo 7

There are high expectations of the young winger, and he showed promise again. Displayed strength and poise to win a 50/50 before assisting Greenwood for the leveller. Still has a lot to learn, conceding a free-kick in a needless position on the stroke of half-time in a dangerous area. Taken off late on.

Juan Mata 6

Played in the hole in a young attack, finding Amad for deep in the build-up to Greenwood’s leveller. Spirited, but it's clear why Bruno Fernandes starts almost every game.

Anthony Elanga 6

The 14th academy graduate to be given a debut by Solskjaer. Still looks raw and needs to build muscle to win those 50/50 battles, but that will come with time. Started on the left but drifted to the right, made some good runs that weren't picked out. Taken off after 65 minutes.

Mason Greenwood 7

Another hugely impressive finish to level the scoring, going outside before driving low across Schmeichel. Arguably the best finisher at the club. Taken off with 25 minutes to go with one eye on Liverpool.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford (Greenwood 65’) 5

His very first act was to switch off for the corner from which Soyuncu scored. Unable to change the game, and on recent form, his starting role is in real danger ahead of the Europa League final.

Edinson Cavani (Elanga 65’) 6

On a rich vein of form, but Leicester scored immediately after he came on to change the dynamic of the game and crowd him out.

Bruno Fernandes (Amad 79’) 6

Snatched at a late chance in the box - a tiugh chance, but the outfield League goals have dried up for him.

Subs not used: Lindelof, Pogba, Shaw, Henderson, Wan Bissaka, McTominay
