Manchester United enter race for Theo Walcott

History could repeat itself at Arsenal in January as Manchester United reportedly joined the race to sign the pacy striker-come-winger Theo Walcott.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are all interested but should he leave North London, Walcott has expressed a desire to follow ex-Gunners striker Robin van Persie and move to Old Trafford, putting Alex Ferguson in pole position for the transfer, according to the Daily Mail.

Walcott has refused to sign a five-year deal with the Gunners worth £75,000 per week and new terms have not been discussed since August 28.

Walcott is reportedly eager to stay with his current club but is interested in a deal closer to £100,000 per week.

If a new contract agreement cannot be reached by December 31, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will look to sell Walcott for as little as £8million, as his current deal will expire in six months.

Wenger's interest in United's Portuguese winger Nani creates the added possibility of a swap between the two clubs when the transfer window arrives.

Though Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is set to bid for Walcott next month, the mutual interest between Arsenal and Manchester United has moved the goal posts.
