Manchester United player ratings vs AC Milan: Amad Diallo shows Man Utd might have a star on their hands

Manchester United conceded a late equaliser as AC Milan scored a vital away goal and earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their last-16 Europa League tie.

James Robson was at Old Trafford to rate the United players…

Dean Henderson 7

Relieved to see two unstoppable efforts ruled out early, but produced a couple of important saves on a night when his defence did not provide enough cover.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6

Put under pressure by a Milan side with pace, movement and strength. Just about did enough to put Krunic off in the second half when he looked like converting a diving header.

Eric Bailly 6

An uncomfortable night for him at times. Looked far happier in the second half, but Milan still had too many chances.

Harry Maguire 6

Struggled to impose himself aerially and then responsible for failing to score from right under the Milan bar. Got more control in the second half.

Alex Telles 6

His set pieces could be a useful addition for United. His first half corner that was flicked on by Fernandes should have ended up in the back of the net – but Maguire failed to convert from point black range.

Scott McTominay 6

Grew into the game and had more of an impact in limiting Milan’s dominance in midfield.

Nemanja Matic 5

Had a real problem with the movement of Milan’s midfield and forwards. Looked close to conceding a penalty when turned by Saelemaekers.

Daniel James 5

Enjoying a good run of games, but end product continues to let him down. Missed a golden chance from close range.

Bruno Fernandes 7

Not at his very best – but made the goal for Amad and it was his flick-on earlier that saw Maguire hit the post from on the line. Rarely fails to make an impact.

Anthony Martial 5

Forced a fine save from Donnarumma in a rare moment of quality from United – but not enough impact before going off at half time.

Mason Greenwood 6

Nothing like as threatening as we’ve seen him. Rarely got behind the Milan defence to stretch them with his pace. Quality cross in the second half should have been converted by James.

Substitutes

What an impact. What a goal. United might have a star on their hands.

Fred (Fernandes, 73’) 5

Solskjaer was desperate to stem the threat of Milan so wanted defensive reinforcements in midfield. It didn’t work.

Brandon Williams (Wan-Bissaka, 73’) 5

Added fresh legs to a tiring defence, but still couldn’t keep Milan at bay.

Luke Shaw (James, 73’) 5

United just don’t look the same without him. Ended up playing on the wing to show his diversity.
