Sergio Ramos has been urged to snub a transfer to Manchester United and stay at Real Madrid after being described by teammate Danilo as an "historic" player whose experience is needed at the club.

Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks after the defender is believed to have grown unhappy at Real for allowing his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu to run into its final two years.

Former Real president Ramon Calderon claimed on Wednesday that the Spanish World Cup and European winner had told the club he wanted to move to United this summer - with the Red Devils reported to have tabled a £28.6 million bid for the player.

But Ramos' teammate Danilo has said the defender should stay at the Santiago Bernabeu because he, along with Iker Casillas, are important members of the Los Blancos squad.

"They are historic players who can support us in times of difficulty," the 23-year-old right-back told Spanish publication Marca.

After being stopped in her car by a reporter from Chiringuito TV on Tuesday, Paqui Garcia was asked if her son was keen to stay in Madrid, to which she replied: "Absolutely. At Madrid above all else."

When then asked about her son reportedly being interested in joining United, she replied: "No. I don't think so.
