Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez insists there is nothing stopping him from playing against Manchester United on Saturday despite his exertions on international duty.

Sanchez scored two goals in Chile’s 3-1 win over Uruguay in the early hours of Wednesday morning having made a swift recovery from a thigh injury sustained whilst in South America.

He is set to be assessed by Arsenal’s medical team before Arsene Wenger decides whether to name Sanchez in the starting lineup for the trip to Old Trafford but the 27-year-old is confident he has done enough to prove his fitness.

“I travel today [Wednesday] to London,” Sanchez told reporters in Santiago after inspiring Chile to victory. “I will train on Friday and travel the same day to Manchester to play Saturday midday.

“There is no problem with me playing.”

Wenger had expressed his fears for Sanchez’s future during the international break, admitting he was concerned that a relapse of the muscle problem could rule his first-choice striker out for “two or three months”.

The Arsenal manager has expressed reticence in the past over the strain Sanchez places on his body, particularly after travelling back from international duty, and left him on the bench for September’s win over Southampton, which also fell just after the international break.
