Former England captain Terry Butcher is adamant Manchester United will live to regret selling Danny Welbeck to league rivals Arsenal.

The 23-year-old scored twice as England overcame Switzerland at St Jakob-Park in Basel, just one week in from his £16million move to Emirates Stadium.

Welbeck showed great energy to meet Raheem Sterling's cross before completing his brace with a composed finish and Butcher expects the England man to regularly reproduce Tuesday's performance under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

“Man United will regret selling Danny Welbeck to Arsenal,” he told talkSPORT.

“He’s got blistering pace, is a good team player and finishes very well.

“The way Arsenal play, and the chances they’ll give him, will make Man United regret their decision.

“He’s enjoying his football at the moment. Arsene Wenger must be purring because it is a superb piece of business.”

Welbeck is in line to make his Arsenal debut when they host Manchester City in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off as attention turns back to the Premier League season.
