DeAndre Yedlin has praised Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s attitude towards young players after the American made his Premier League debut at the weekend.

USA international Yedlin came on with 11 minutes remaining in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 21-year-old signed for Spurs from Seattle Sounders last August following an impressive World Cup in Brazil but didn’t join up with Pochettino’s squad until January this year.

“It’s obviously a place where younger players are developing greatly and you look at Harry Kane — he’s the main one and he has just shot through the roof and that’s very encouraging,” he said.

“I think it’s very motivating when you have guys like Nabil [Bentaleb] who has started every game at 20 years old and it’s encouraging to know that Pochettino has that kind of trust in younger players.”

With right-back Kyle Walker struggling with a foot injury, Yedlin could be given another opportunity to impress at Newcastle on Sunday.
