Lionel Messi’s father makes bombshell statement on star’s potential return to Barcelona

Rumoured comeback is not on the cards, says Jorge Messi

Lionel Messi will probably never play for Barcelona again, his father has stated.

There had been talk of the LaLiga giants making a serious play to sign their former hero ahead of his Paris Saint-Germain contract expiring in the summer.

However, Jorge Messi, who also operates as his son’s agent, has gone on the record to say that Barcelona have not made an offer to sign the Argentine, nor has he spoken with club president Joan Laporta.

He is quoted by Sport as saying: “I don't think Leo will play for Barcelona again.

“We haven't spoken with Laporta and there's no offer.”

Reports suggest Messi is closing in on extending his stay at PSG despite interest from MLS and talk of a shock Barcelona return.

The 35-year-old’s brother, Matias, recently apologised after claiming that any Messi comeback to the Camp Nou would only take place if the whole club was “cleaned up” with Laporta “thrown out”.

In responding to the rumours, the Barcelona president said last week: “Don't make me talk about Messi, he belongs to PSG and I don't want to comment on footballers who are at another club.”
