Mesut Ozil embraced members of the Manchester United staff after Arsenal were beaten 3-1 by their top-four rivals at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

United closed the gap to Premier League leaders Manchester City to five points as the Gunners suffered their first home defeat in the League since the opening day of last season.

Goals from Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard put United in charge inside 15 minutes, and Lingard put the game beyond Arsenal in the second period after Alexandre Lacazette had given the hosts hope.

Ozil, who impressed despite defeat, marched towards the United bench after the final whistle to greet opposition staff as his Arsenal team-mates traipsed from the field.

Ozil worked with members of United's current backroom team - including Jose Mourinho and Rui Faria - during a three-year stint at Real Madrid from 2010.

The 29-year-old is still yet to sign a new contract at Emirates Stadium and has shown little indication he is willing to do so before it expires in the summer.

He will be free to talk to overseas clubs from January 1, with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Inter Milan among the interested parties.

Meanwhile, United are closely monitoring the German's situation and speaking ahead of the win over Arsenal, Jose Mourinho refused to rule out a move for Ozil.

But Wenger said earlier this month both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will stay until at least the summer “unless something unbelievable happens".
