Millwall are “deeply concerned” that Lewisham Council has yet to formally clarify its position on a compulsory purchase order of land around The Den.

The Council last week abandoned plans to seize the land and today issued a statement confirming the CPO cannot be implemented.

But they have yet to formally scrap the CPO and Millwall fear “the door has been left wide” for the process to be restarted.

A spokesperson for Lewisham Council said today: “The September 2016 CPO decision has no force and cannot be implemented, full stop.

“Any regeneration of the area, proposed by anyone would require a new decision by the Council.”

But Millwall want an end to the uncertainty. In a statement, they said: “We are deeply concerned that the Council has yet to clarify formally what its position is on the CPO process. We believe it should be formally cancelled rather than left up in the air, thereby leaving the club and residents in limbo.”
