Napoli v Arsenal: Formisano pleads with fans to behave for Champions League clash

Napoli chief Alessandro Formisano has pleaded with the club’s fans to behave in tonight’s Champions League clash with Arsenal to avoid the Italians being hit with further UEFA sanctions.

Fans attacked the Marseille team bus, pelting it with stones and smashing a window, ahead of last month’s Euro clash and UEFA took action after supporters from both sides burned flares throughout the match, which ended in 3-2 victory for the home side.

There were fears UEFA would make Rafa Benitez’s team play tonight’s match behind closed doors but Napoli were fined and Formisano said: “I would like to remind all fans the risk of having the San Paolo stadium banned.

“The club has already received a suspended sentence. Therefore we want to avoid any further problems. It’s strictly forbidden to introduce fireworks or any pyrotechnics into the stadium. All gangways, access ways, exits and entrances and like places must be open to security purposes.

“All fans should be able to enjoy the festive atmosphere and celebration of football without any concerns about their safety or well-being.”

Meanwhile, Benitez pledged to attack in tonight’s game as Napoli seek the win by three goals or more that could see them progress.

“This is our last chance to get out of the group, so we will give everything we can.

“We don’t care about Marseille against Dortmund because we just have to try to win against Arsenal. They are a quality team who are really quick on the counter attack. We just have to stay balanced against opponents as strong as them.”
