The National League board will meet today to discuss whether to hold play-offs – but a decision is likely to be delayed until there is more clarity from the EFL.

All 68 National League clubs have been canvassed for their opinion on whether to stage play-offs after the remaining regular-season matches were cancelled last month. Play-offs could either be postponed and attempted to be completed at a later date or cancelled.

While the board will discuss the feedback from clubs via video-link at 11.30am, they are wary of making a final decision until the EFL has determined how to finish the season. The EFL is, in turn, watching the Premier League's attempts to restart the campaign with interest.

Once a decision is reached, the National League would need to decide which clubs qualify for the play-offs, which could be decided by freezing the table or using points-per-game. Expunging all results, in line with all non-league tiers below the National League, has not been ruled out.

The National League wrote to all clubs last week to warn that if either the play-offs do not take place, or League Two is not completed, "it is quite possible that the promotion place for a play-off winner could be jeopardised".

The EFL may decide not to relegate rock-bottom Stevenage if the season is not finished, meaning the League Two could only accept one new club next season to replace Bury.
